He thought he was going to buy an iPhone, police said.
Instead, the 24-year-old man ended up getting robbed at gunpoint Sunday evening on a street in Freeport, police said.
Nassau County police said the robbery took place at about 7 p.m. It was then, police said, that the victim parked his car on Harris Avenue, as part of an arrangement to buy the phone.
The man told police that, once parked, he saw three men approach his vehicle. Two got into the car and told the victim to drive to another location to make the deal, police said. When the driver pulled over he told police one of the men "brandished a black revolver." The men then stole cash, a cell phone, a laptop computer and other property before fleeing, police said.
No one was injured. The two robbers are in their late teens or early 20s, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the situation to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
