A robbery attempt at a Malverne gas station nearly led to a station attendant being run over as the suspect fled in a Jeep, Nassau police said Saturday.

At 9:30 p.m. Friday, a man entered the USA Gas Station at 471 Hempstead Ave. wearing a dark ski mask, police said. He showed a handgun and demanded money from the attendant, they said.

The attendant fled outside, and the man could not open the register on his own, police said. The suspect grabbed the attendant's jacket and cell phone and fled in a Jeep Cherokee, police said.

As he drove away, he attempted to hit the attendant with his car, according to police. The attendant was not hurt.
