Two people were injured early Sunday in a head-on collision on Route 109 in Lindenhurst. Suffolk County police said Jason Tyree, 27, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and reckless endangerment after he drove his car the wrong way in eastbound lanes of Route 109 and collided with another car. The East Farmingdale Fire Company and one ambulance from the West Babylon Fire Department responded and took the injured drivers to a hospital. A large fuel spill was also handled by firefighters. A Farmingdale man was arrested on DWI charges early Sunday after driving the wrong way on Route 109 and colliding with another car, Suffolk County police said.

As most cars swerved to avoid him, Jayson Tyree, 27, was driving a 2001 Volvo against traffic on the eastbound lanes of Route 109, west of Wellwood Avenue, about 2:50 a.m., when it collided with a 2012 Nissan near 1144 Rte. 109, police said.

Both drivers received minor injuries and were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment, police said.

Tyree was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and second-degree reckless endangerment.

At his arraignment Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip, Tyree was ordered held on $100,025 bond or $50,025 cash bail. He is scheduled back in court on Monday.
