As we look ahead to the second winter holiday season of the coronavirus pandemic, it feels more important than ever for communities to come together.
In that spirit, we offer our annual holiday shopping guide's focus on Long Island shopping destinations, places that embody Small Business Saturday on Nov. 27 (and beyond!). In the "downtown destinations" here, you can read about the local merchants and locally made products that help sustain our communities. And don't stop with what we've found; there are many more exciting shopping opportunities than we could ever fit in one place.
We also offer guides to Malls and Big-Box stores, which this year are offering expanded hours and events (Santa, anyone?). Shopping online? Check out our Gifts for Gardeners.
Finally, you can get in on the holiday spirit in person at our listing of celebrations in town, villages and hamlets. - Rosemary Olander, LI Life Editor

'Success is zero deaths on the roadway' Newsday reporters spent this year examining the risks on Long Island's roads, where traffic crashes over a decade killed more than 2,100 people and seriously injured more than 16,000. This documentary is a result of that newsroom-wide effort.
