Nassau County police at the scene of a crash that killed a pedestrian in Island Park on Saturday. Credit: Jim Staubitser

Nassau police have identified the pedestrian who was killed along with his dog after being struck by a vehicle in Island Park Saturday night, authorities said.

Paul Silvio, 42, of Island Park, was crossing Austin Boulevard at the intersection of Saratoga Boulevard shortly before 9 p.m. when he and his dog were struck by a 2001 Mercedes driven by a 27-year-old man, authorities said.

Silvio was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Mercedes remained at the scene and was not charged.

Police said the investigation was ongoing.
