At least 8 House Democrats could lose their jobs if the wave favoring Republicans nationwide proves strong enough in New York.

One seat is an almost certain Republican pickup on Election Day. Tom Reed, the former mayor of Corning, was expected to win the seat in the 29th district outside Rochester once held by Democratic Rep. Eric Massa. Massa abruptly resigned last March amid accusations he had sexually harassed male staffers.

Seats in eastern Long Island, Staten Island and the lower Hudson Valley are all in play. Several seats in upstate New York look to be cliffhangers, particularly two in Republican-leaning areas that Democrats won in special elections last year.

Democrats currently control 27 of the state’s 29 Congressional Districts.
