Republican

BACKGROUND

  • Garbarino, 42, of Bayport, is a registered Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election.
  • He was elected to the U.S. House in 2020 and is serving his third term. He is chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee and sits on the House’s financial services and ethics committees.
  • Garbarino was a state assemblyman from 2013 to 2020. He is a graduate of George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and Hofstra University School of Law.

ISSUES

  • Garbarino said he is focused on improving Long Island’s economy by supporting policies that aid small businesses. He points to his support for bipartisan legislation that passed the House but is awaiting action in the Senate that would increase the amount of money venture capital funds can invest in startups and small businesses.
  • He touts his work securing permanent funding for the World Trade Center Health Program earlier this year as part of a Homeland Security spending bill, and notes he successfully lobbied this year for the restoration of $2 billion in FEMA funds owed to New York hospitals for COVID-19 response.
  • Garbarino said he supports an “all-of-the-above energy strategy” and led a push to preserve several clean-energy tax credits that would have been eliminated under the Republican-led tax-and-spend bill of 2024.
