BACKGROUND

  • Giglio, 58, of Baiting Hollow, is a registered Republican seeking her fourth two-year term. She is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election.
  • She is a land-use consultant and former developer who was a Riverhead Town Board councilwoman from 2010 to 2020.
  • Giglio attended Stony Brook University and majored in business administration.

ISSUES

  • Giglio said she wants to reform the state budget to do “what government should be doing.” She said that includes reviewing and curtailing grants for nonprofits that support criminals or provide services for victims. “These victims’ advocates groups are doing a great job, but there are more and more of them popping up, and the pot of money is thinning out,” Giglio said.
  • Giglio said lists used by law enforcement to identify illegal drugs must be updated to include emerging drugs and synthetic narcotics. “If police officers can’t identify what drug that person they’re pulling over is on, that drug charge is dismissed,” she said. “Those drugs need to be added to the list.”
  • She said she is pushing for passage of a bill she wrote that would require completion of safety courses as a prerequisite for owning e-bikes. Young people, she said, “are all using them without helmets and the parents don’t know.” The bill reached the Assembly Transportation Committee this year before being tabled, Giglio said, adding, “Too many children and pedestrians are getting hurt.”
