BACKGROUND
- Canning, 63, is a Republican and is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines lines. He serves as commissioner of Oyster Bay Town's Human Resources Department.
- He is looking to return to the county legislature after previously serving from 1996-1999. "I'm trying now to become the comeback kid," he said.
- Canning has an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto, a master's degree in European history from Stony Brook University and a law degree from the St. John's School of Law.
ISSUES
- Canning wants to help keep Nassau County a "safe and serene" place by supporting the police department.
- He intends to fight against potential tax increases.
- Canning hopes to keep control of zoning local and opposes the Propel NY Energy cable project.
