BACKGROUND

  • Chin, 54, of North Hills, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic party line in the general election.
  • She is president of the Herricks Board of Education, of which she has been a member since 2013. She is a program manager in the community outreach and volunteer services department at North Shore University Hospital and was deputy town clerk in the Town of North Hempstead for two years.
  • Chin attended Penn State University but did not complete her degree. She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, and moved to New York in 1994. She has lived on Long Island since 2005.

ISSUES

  • Chin said affordability is a top concern as residents ask themselves daily “how much longer can we afford to live here” as prices increase. She said that if elected she wants to address the county’s “broken” assessment system.
  • She said she wants to ensure the county police department is fully staffed, including with 911 operators, after a retirement incentive earlier this year left vacancies.
  • Chin said the county should work “in lockstep” with school districts to create opportunties for young people. She proposes an expanded county internship program for students interested in government.
