Strauss, 62, of Mineola, a registered Republican, and is running on the Republican and Conservative lines. He has represented Nassau’s 9th legislative district since 2024.
He spent 20 years in the NYPD and retired in 2004 as a detective in the emergency service unit. He received the department's medal of honor for his actions at the World Trade Center on 9/11. He has been vice president of security at Northwell Health since 2004.
Strauss served four terms as mayor of the Village of Mineola, where he is a volunteer in the fire department and ambulance corps.

Strauss said he supports local police and first responders keeping the county safe by making sure officers "can be seen in the neighborhood" and ensuring the county provides adequate training.
He said he wants to keep taxes low. He said he weighs every financial decision by how it would affect people on fixed incomes, such as his grandparents, who lived on Social Security and "scraped by.”
Strauss said he wants to protect "a suburban way of life" through home rule and he opposes "unfunded mandates." He cited proposals for creating accessory dwelling units, which he said should be optional for each community.
