BACKGROUND

  • Vider, 48, of Hewlett Bay Park, is a registered Democrat and is running on the Democratic party line in the general election.
  • She was born and raised in Brooklyn and moved to Nassau County in 2013 with her family. She graduated from Brooklyn College.
  • Vider has worked for nearly 30 years at the Oceanview Manor for Adults, an assisted living facility run by her family. She has been its administrator since 2009.

ISSUES

  • Vider said her Republican opponent is ineffective in a Democrat-led Senate and that she would be better positioned to actually pass legislation and bring home state financial aid and grants to the district.
  • She said that if elected she would be a moderate voice in a Democratic conference, saying the state can’t “go completely green” on energy without having a comprehensive plan that won’t hurt consumers, and that she would focus on public safety and affordability.
  • Vider said she has expertise on healthcare issues after working 28 years in the field, and would be effective in shaping regulations and laws to improve care, specifically addressing a Medicaid billing system that drives up costs.
