BACKGROUND

  • Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick, 61, of Malverne, is a registered Republican who is running on the Republican and Conservative party lines in the general election.
  • She is in her fourth year in the State Senate and formerly served as trustee and deputy mayor of Malverne.
  • She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a law degree from St. John’s University. She also has a master of law degree from New York University School of Law.

ISSUES

  • Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick said the state should undertake a new study of the cost impacts of its climate-goals law while raising tax credits for solar energy and taking an “all of the above” approach to energy development.
  • She said her opponent would be a “rubber stamp” for a liberal agenda promoted by many but not all Senate Democrats. She added that her opponent, who has never run for office, doesn’t have the “experience to get things done.”
  • Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick contends that, despite being in the minority party, she has been effective in getting district grants and has “gotten results,” such as helping Long Beach halt an offshore wind power project.
