BACKGROUND

• Lancman, 57, of Great Neck, is a registered Democrat and is running on Democratic Party line. He is seeking a seat in the State Senate to "make life less expensive, hold government accountable and keep our communities safe."
• He is director of corporate initiatives and senior counsel at the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law representing victims of antisemitism. Lancman, born and raised in Queens, served on the New York City Council from 2014 to 2020 and was a member of the State Assembly from 2007 to 2012. He is on the board of the Nassau Health Care Corporation and Great Neck Library.
• Lancman earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Queens College in 1991 and graduated from Columbia Law School with his Juris Doctor degree in 1995. He served in the New York Army National Guard from 1988 to 1992 and was a platoon leader in the 42nd Infantry Division.

ISSUES

• Lancman said he would force the Long Island Power Authority and the state Public Service Commission to reject "unjustified" PSEG rate hikes and hold the energy company accountable for its "repeated failures to live up to the terms of its contract."
• He would work to lower the cost of prescription drugs by increasing access to generic forms of expensive medications and protect patients from medical debt.
• Lancman said he is working to save taxpayers money by exposing mismanagement at the Nassau University Medical Center and would bring that same approach to government waste across the Island and to the state.
