Nassau lawmaker's bid for Wi-Fi warnings hits dead spot with P.O.

Nassau Legis. Delia DeRiggi-Whitton is sponsoring legislation that would place warning signs in county buildings with wireless routers in use, citing concerns about long-term exposure to radiation.
 
DeRiggi-Whitton (D-Glen Cove) said the bill would provide county employees -- particularly pregnant women -- with important information about the location of routers that are placed behind walls and not easily visible. Suffolk County passed similar legislation last year.
 
"It's about keeping our employees and the pubic safe, protected and informed," she said.
 
But Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves said there is no proof that wi-fi routers are dangerous. "Without credible scientific, medical or governmental evidence, why shouldn't we put the same signage next to all microwaves, cell phones and televisionsd" Gonsalves said.
