Incumbent Andrew M. Cuomo owns the western half of Long Island when it comes to fundraising for the governor’s race, but his opponent Rob Astorino has a small advantage in various ZIP codes further east, new campaign finance records show.

The Democratic governor has raised $33.8 million for his re-election bid since Jan. 1, 2012, compared to $4.9 million for his Republican challenger, who began campaigning this year, according to documents filed with the New York State Board of Elections as of Oct. 15, 2014. Astorino is nearly equal with Cuomo in number of donors, however -- he has 5,486, while Cuomo has 5,686.

A Newsday map is dark blue in much of the Island’s western half because Cuomo has brought in at least $6,000 more than Astorino in those areas. The Republican has a strong edge in ZIP codes in Smithtown and Mattituck, which are marked by deep red.

A look at the statewide map shows that Astorino has outraised Cuomo in large geographic swaths, but the governor has the edge around the major cities of New York, Buffalo, Syracuse and Albany.
