President Donald Trump will attend the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black next month, he announced on social media, marking his first visit to Long Island since taking office in January.

"It will be a great Ryder Cup. At the invite of the PGA Tour, I will be there on Tournament Friday!!!," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Saturday night.

Held every two years, the three-day men’s golf tournament features top players divided into European and U.S. teams. In 2023, the competition was hosted in Rome. On Friday, Sept. 26, golfers will tee off from the famed Black Course at Bethpage State Park to start the three-day tournament.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said on a podcast in June that he had encouraged Trump to attend the Ryder Cup at Bethpage.

"He’s a tremendous golf supporter and player ... I have seen him play. He has a great swing," Blakeman said at the time.

In a statement on Sunday, Blakeman wrote: "We are honored President Trump will be in Nassau County for the Ryder Cup."

The event marks Trump's first visit to Long Island since starting his second term. Last September, he held a rally at the Nassau Coliseum, speaking for 90 minutes in the 16,000-seat arena.

In December, he visited LIU's Brookville campus, where he was named "Patriot of the Year" at the 2024 Fox Nation Patriot Awards.

"This is quite a group. I have so many friends here," he said in a speech at the event.

Early in his 2016 campaign, Trump held a rally before about 10,000 people in Bethpage at Grumman Studios and recounted the days when he would wake up early to play golf where this year's Ryder Cup will take place.

"I love these people. These are my people," he told the crowd.

In November, Trump became the first Republican presidential candidate to win Nassau County in more than 30 years. He won Suffolk County in 2016, 2020 and 2024.

Among his dedicated Long Island supporters is Blakeman, who has backed the president's mass-deportation agenda, partnering with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement shortly after Inauguration Day.

Trump has endorsed Blakeman in his bid for reelection in November against Nassau County Legis. Seth Koslow (D-Merrick). "Bruce is MAGA all the way, and has been with us from the very beginning," Trump wrote in a social media post in May.

A crackdown on immigration resonated with a large segment of Long Island voters while other supporters said Trump cared "about the average Joe."

A majority of Americans disapprove of Trump's actions, according to a Pew Research Center poll earlier this month, but he has the support of about 85% of those who voted for him in November.
