A wrong-way collision on Sunrise Highway near Southampton Saturday night left one person dead and several others injured, New York State Police said.

A 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass was driving east in the westbound lanes when it hit a Suzuki Grand Vitara around 6:50 p.m., police said.

The driver of the Oldsmobile, who was alone in the car, was killed, according to police.

The driver and two passengers in the Suzuki were airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center. Police said they sustained non-life threatening injuries..

The westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway at Exit 63 were reopened around 11 p.m. Eastbound lanes remained open for travel.

Police did not immediately know whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
