1 shot, 1 assaulted in Tuckahoe home invasion
Southampton Town police are investigating a home invasion in Tuckahoe in which one man was shot and another assaulted yesterday morning.
Both unidentified victims survived the attack at a home on North Magee Street, police said.
It was unclear whether anything was taken from the home, police said, but a preliminary investigation indicated the residence may have been targeted.
Police said two men - one carrying a semiautomatic pistol and both wearing red bandannas over their faces - went to the house at about 9:30 a.m.
A 21-year-old resident of the house was shot in the abdomen when he tried to block the intruders from entering, police said.
A 28-year-old resident of the house tried to help the first when he heard the disturbance, police said. The second resident was assaulted by the intruders, receiving cuts to the face and head, police said.
The intruders went into several rooms inside the house, then fled, police said.
The man who was shot drove himself to Southampton Hospital, where he was treated for the wound, police said. The second victim was treated and released from Southampton Hospital, police said.
