10 motorists arrested on DWI charge at sobriety checkpoint in Huntington

Ten motorists were arrested during an overnight sobriety checkpoint in Huntington Station, including a Huntington man driving with a 7-month-old child in the vehicle, Suffolk County police said.

The checkpoint operation, held on Route 110 at Church Street between 11 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday, was conducted to deter motorists from driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol, particularly during the upcoming Labor Day weekend, police said.

A total of 625 vehicles went through the checkpoint, according to the Suffolk County Highway Patrol Bureau.

Among those arrested was Marvin Whitfield, 36, of Virginia Avenue, who was charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated after being stopped for traffic violations with an infant in his vehicle. Whitfield was also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

The other nine motorists charged with driving while intoxicated are:

Michael Levy, 27, of Lemarr Avenue in Melville

Kathryn Perry, 47, of Mill Road in Seaford

Maritza Borges, 46, of Kellum Street in Huntington Station

Judy Evans, 53, of Main Street in Huntington

Renny Peter, 32, of Montgomery Street in Savannah, Georgia

Andrea Ronquillo, 25, of Broadway Greenlawn in Huntington

Abdulla Mirpur, 36, of Commack Road in Dix Hills

Avinav Gambhir, 24, of Country Squire Court in Dix Hills

All 10 motorists will be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.

Abdulla Mirpur’s DWI charges were dismissed in 2016 when he pleaded guilty to a speeding violation and paid a fine, court records show.
