The Suffolk SPCA is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for a tortured and abandoned pit bull that was discovered jammed into a plastic container in Amityville, the agency said Wednesday.
The dog, which had apparently recently given birth, was emaciated and showed signs of burns on her body, according to Roy Gross, chief of the Suffolk SPCA.
"It was very thin, had ribs showing," Gross said. "I don't know the fate of the puppies. I was so enraged by this whole thing, that I said I'm putting a reward out," Gross said.
The container with the dog inside was found Sunday morning by a couple walking in a wooded area off Brown Avenue, Gross said.
The couple fed the dog and took it to a local vet for treatment, Gross said. "I don't think it could have survived much longer," he said.
