Two men were arrested after they sold alcohol to an underage volunteer during State Liquor Authority inspections Thursday in Suffolk, police said.

Suffolk County police said the inspections were carried out, in conjunction with the First Precinct Crime Section, at nine businesses after community complaints. An underage volunteer, acting as an agent, entered those businesses and attempted to buy alcohol.

Seven of the businesses were compliant, police said, but employees at two others sold alcohol to the minor and were arrested after the sales.

Kunwar Sharma, 76, of Lincoln Street in Jersey City, N.J., and Ali Erkan, 46, of Main Street, Center Moriches, were arrested and charged with first-degree unlawfully dealing with a child for serving alcohol to a minor, police said.

Sharma works at Lindenhurst Wine and Liquor on Park Avenue in Lindenhurst, police said, while Erkan works at the Getty Gas Mini Mart on Route 109 in West Babylon.

Both were issued field appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear for arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip on Dec. 7.

Police said the operation was part of a continuing effort by the department to "ensure compliance of existing statutes regarding the sale of alcohol products from local businesses."
