A two-car crash Saturday morning in Dix Hills left two drivers injured, fire department officials said.

The crash occurred at 6:45 a.m. on Deer Park Avenue south of Vanderbilt Parkway when a Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle collided with a Ford Explorer, officials said.

The Mercedes rolled over and landed upright in the center median. The female driver of the SUV was extricated from the vehicle by Dix Hills firefighters who used the Jaws of Life to remove two doors.

The driver was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where she was treated for a possible broken wrist and other injuries, said Dix Hills Fire Department 1st Assistant Chief Tom Magno.

The Explorer, meanwhile, careened off the road and narrowly missed a house before crashing through a fence, Magno said. The male driver of the truck suffered minor back and neck injuries and was taken to Huntington Hospital.

"They were both very lucky," Magno said.
