Two Port Jefferson men have been jailed in Monday's fatal shooting in Coram of a 21-year-old Selden man, officials said.

The men arrested in the shooting death of Luis Vargas are Eduardo Nunez, 20, of 225 Half Mile Rd. and Alex Fernandez, 19, of 28 Ontario St.

Fernandez, arrested Tuesday, was arraigned Wednesday on a manslaughter charge and ordered jailed without bail. He's due back in court March 15.

Nunez, arrested Friday, was arraigned Saturday on a murder charge and also ordered jailed without bail. He's due back in court March 8.

Fernandez's attorney, Toni Marie Angeli of Garden City, declined to immediately comment on the case. No attorney for Nunez was listed in court records.

In Monday's shooting, Vargas was discovered in a backyard on Judith Drive with a gunshot wound to his chest at 11:13 p.m. after a 911 call, police said. He was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, police said.

Police did not elaborate on the circumstances of the slaying or of the arrest.
