An early morning fire Wednesday at a fencing manufacturer in Bay Shore sent one firefighter and one other person to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, fire officials said.

The two victims were transported to Southside Hospital, Suffolk County fire officials said.

Suffolk County police said the fire at the Wayside Fence manufacturing and distribution center on Third Avenue was reported at 1:39 a.m. Firefighters from Bay Shore, West Islip, Islip, East Islip and Islip Terrace battled the blaze.

Police said Third Avenue remains closed between Brook Street and Union Boulevard.

A specialized fire rescue team was called in because of air-quality issues and possible contamination from PVC fencing on site, police said.

There were reports of residential apartments on site, as well, but police could not immediately confirm details.

On its website, Wayside said it sells range from "custom cedar wood and PVC fencing, arbors, pergolas, gates, posts, caps and sleeves to chain link, aluminum ornamental, crowd-control fencing, deer fencing, snow fencing, sports netting, safety fencing, aviary enclosures and more."

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
