Two teenage boys navigating separate kayaks in West Islip near Captree State Park were rescued Saturday evening after their boats overturned, officials said.

West Islip, Bay Shore and Babylon fire departments along with Suffolk County police Marine Bureau officers responded to the scene at 6:30 p.m.

West Islip Fire Chief Blaise Gemellaro said the boys were stuck in the mud in shallow waters and couldn't move.

One of the boys, a 16-year-old, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was treated for hyperthermia, officials said.

Officials said the second teen was not injured.
