Two people were transported to hospitals with nonlife-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle collision in Dix Hills Tuesday night, police said.

The woman driver of one vehicle sustained head injuries and was airlifted by Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center. The man driving the other vehicle, an SUV, was transported by ambulance to Huntington Hospital with less serious injuries, officials said.

Dix Hills Assistant Fire Chief Tom Magno said the woman's car overturned after the collision with the SUV at Deer Park Avenue and DeForest Road at about 8:25 p.m. Firefighters used heavy duty tools to extricate her from her damaged vehicle after about 15 minutes, Magno said. She sustained a head injury, he said.

Information was not immediately available from Suffolk police concerning the cause of the collision.
