Three men caught stripping a stolen Honda Civic in Deer Park on Friday were arrested on charges of grand larceny and possession of stolen property, Suffolk County police said.
Detectives with the Vehicle Theft Section were investigating recent thefts of vehicles, tires and rims that occurred throughout the First, Third and Fifth precincts. During surveillance, police said they observed three men in the driveway of a home at 32 Duke St., dismantling the Civic, which had been stolen earlier in the day.
Arrested were Cristian Rodriguez, 18, and Robin Mena, 18, both of Bay Shore, and Manuel Ortega, 26, of Providence, R.I.
Police charged Rodriguez with four counts of third-degree grand larceny, three counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and seven counts of third-degree auto stripping. Mena faces the same charges, except police charged him with only five counts of auto stripping. Ortega faces one count of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
All three men face arraignment Saturday in First District Court in Central Islip.
