3 teens arrested in Stony Brook campus robberies
Stony Brook University officials on Friday said they have arrested three 16-year-old males on charges stemming from two robberies that took place last week.
The first student was threatened and robbed of his phone and cash by two or three males, Robert J. Lenahan, chief of police, said in a campus advisory.
Next, two males threatened three students with an Airsoft pistol and demanded money, he said.
None of the three teenagers are affiliated with Stony Brook, Lenahan said.
University spokeswoman Lauren Sheprow said: "The suspects were apprehended after many hours of surveillance, witness interviews and through the use of investigative technologies."
Two of the teenagers, who live in East Setauket, were charged with robbery and criminal possession of stolen property.
The third person, a Setauket resident, was charged with criminal possession of stolen property.
