The Long Island Expressway in Melville will be closed in both directions overnight for several nights, starting Sunday, state transportation officials said.

Motorists will have to go onto the service roads before reaching Exit 49, Pinelawn Road, as crews remove the temporary concrete construction barrier, which was used for the $5.5-million rehabilitation of the aging LIE overpass there, officials said.

The main roadway will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday morning, the state advisory said.

Except for some minor work remaining, renovations were recently completed on the Pinelawn Road bridge to maintain its structural integrity, officials said.
