An overnight crackdown on commercial trucking ended with police issuing 54 summonses and taking six cargo tankers out of service along the Long Island Expressway in Brentwood.

Suffolk County police said its Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Safety Section, in conjunction with the state Department of Taxation and State Environmental Conservation Police, issued the summonses and took the tankers out of service at a fuel-carrier checkpoint set up in the park-and-ride lot on Wicks Road.

The checkpoint was run between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Nineteen trucks were inspected.

Additionally, seven trucks were cited for violations of state tax laws for incomplete paperwork. Nine of the 54 summonses issued were for violations of environmental conservation law, police said.
