A tribute for first responders in Lindenhurst
A rally and tribute to first responders will take place Saturday in Lindenhurst Village.
The event is sponsored by No More Tears . . . in the Line of Duty, a Deer-Park-based organization that supports military, police, firefighters and other first responders and their families.
The opening ceremony at noon will feature the U.S. Marine Corps., a 21-gun salute and bagpipe rendition of Amazing Grace. A local opera singer will perform the Star Spangled Banner. Taps will be played and four doves released in memory of fallen officers. Officiating will be State Sen. Michael Venditto (R-Massapequa), Legis. DuWayne Gregory (D-Amityville) and Lindenhurst Mayor Tom Brennan.
The event will feature live country and classic rock music, inflatables, food vendors, mechanical rides, a rock wall, a dunk tank, pony rides, petting zoo and a 50/50 raffle.
Gates will open at 11 a.m. at Shore Road Park, with festivities ending at 4:30 p.m. The event is free, but the group is accepting donations which will be used to support efforts such as Adopt a Battalion and Toys for Tots. For more information call 631-645-6696.
