A driver was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle crash in Hauppauge Tuesday night, Suffolk County police said.

The collision occurred about 6:10 p.m. when a westbound Chevrolet Impala on the Long Island Expressway hit a Mini Cooper just east of exit 55, police said.

The Chevrolet veered off the road into a wooded area, where it struck several trees, police said.

The driver, a 56-year-old Hauppauge man, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name was withheld pending notification of family, police said.

The Mini Cooper’s driver, Darren Cheng, 20, of College Point in Queens, had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, police said.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

Fourth Precinct detectives ask anyone with information to contact them at 631-854-8452.
