Nearly 400 Long Island Power Authority customers, most of them in Suffolk County, were without power Monday as gusty winds hit Long Island, officials said.
As of 4:45 p.m., 339 customers in Suffolk - among them 146 in Commack and 93 in Shoreham - were without power. Commack residents were expected to have power restored by 9:30 p.m.; Shoreham residents by 7 p.m., according to LIPA. The 53 residents without power in Nassau were expected to be restored by 6:30 p.m.
Earlier in the day, gusting winds left more than 1,000 customers without power in Suffolk, including 666 in Centereach, an official said.
Most of those customers had their power restored by 1 p.m., according to LIPA.
A LIPA spokesman said the outages were "weather-related, without a doubt."
A wind advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. The National Weather Service reported gusts of up to 37 mph so far Monday at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma. Gusts of up to 45 mph can be expected throughout the day.
The Centereach outages were caused when windblown wires came down on Holbrook Avenue, LIPA said. Emergency crews restored power to those customers by 1 p.m.
