A man complaining of severe stomach pains was airlifted Thursday morning from a fishing boat about 45 miles south of Montauk, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The agency’s Long Island Sound command got a radio transmission from the boat about a medical emergency at 2 a.m. and an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter hoisted the man from the 75-foot boat in the Atlantic Ocean at 4:40 a.m., the Coast Guard said.

The man was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence where he was in stable condition, the Coast Guard said.
