A Connecticut motorcyclist was charged with drunken driving after fleeing police at more than 100 mph Thursday night on the Long Island Expressway, Suffolk County police said.

Alexander Campusano, 42, of Stamford, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and fleeing police. Campusano was also issued multiple traffic summonses and the motorcycle was impounded.

Police said Officer Richard Seagriff saw Campusano operating a 2000 Kawasaki motorcycle recklessly on the LIE near Exit 51 in Dix Hills shortly before 6 p.m. -- riding between lanes and passing on the shoulder at a high rate of speed.

When Seagriff tried to pull over Campusano, he fled at speeds topping 100 mph, according to police.

A few minutes later, there was an unrelated crash just east of Exit 53 in Brentwood, which required the closure of the expressway to clear vehicles and debris. The crash forced Campusano to be stuck in traffic, police said.

Seagriff recognized the motorcycle and, assisted by an officer at the scene, made the arrest.

Campusano was to be arraigned Friday. Details were not immediately available.
