A Riverhead woman left her 4-year-old daughter unattended in their apartment for hours on Friday, then went out socializing for the night, according to Riverhead Town police.

Amanda Burris, 26, of East Main Street, is charged with endangering the welfare of a child after the girl was found wandering around the apartment complex by herself.

Riverhead police found the girl and took her to department headquarters before turning her over to a close relative. Child Protective Services was contacted, police said.

Burris will be arraigned Saturday in Riverhead Town Justice Court.
