An Amityville man crossing Route 110 in Amityville on Saturday night was struck by a car and killed, Suffolk police said.
Salvatore Contessa, 51, was crossing the five-lane roadway at the intersection of North Drive at about 9:55 p.m. when a 2006 Honda Accord driven by Michael Callison, 23, of Massapequa Park, struck him, police said.
Contessa was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. Callison was not injured.
Police impounded the car for a safety check.
Contessa was in the crosswalk, but it was unclear whether he had the green light when the car hit him, police said. No further information was available Sunday night.
Police are continuing the investigation and asking anyone with information to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
