Amityville school officials are changing the way they keep track of visitors.

Beginning Sept. 1, Superintendent Mary T. Kelly wrote to parents last week, building monitors at each school will scan photo identification from each visitor and produce an adhesive badge that visitors must wear while in the school.

The person's name and time of visit will be automatically logged, with names checked against sex offender registries from all 50 states.

"We welcome visitors and encourage all parents to be an active part of their children's educational experience," Kelly wrote. "The goal is simply to enhance the safety and security of students and staff by limiting the access to those who could pose a potential threat."
