Arrest made in Fire Island sex assault
Suffolk police said Sunday they have arrested the man suspected of raping a woman on a Fire Island beach last week.
Police say that Edgar Peralta, 24, of Cherry Grove and Corona, Queens, used a silver handgun in the Cherry Grove assault of a tourist at about 5:20 a.m. Sept. 4.
Peralta, who police say worked in the area, was arrested at 8:20 p.m. Saturday after an investigation by Fifth Squad detectives. He was charged with rape and is being held for arraignment in First District Court Sunday, police said.
