Jaqulynn Vaughn, of Tampa, Florida, was arrested Friday, May 1, 2015, on a second-degree assault charge after she struck and seriously injured a woman with her car after the two had a physical fight at a Riverhead hotel, town police said. Credit: SCPD

A woman was arrested on an assault charge after police said she hit and seriously injured another woman with her vehicle during a dispute Friday afternoon at a Riverhead hotel.

Riverhead Town police responded to the incident at the Hotel Indigo, 1830 W. Main St., at 1:57 p.m.

When they arrived, officers were told that Jaqulynn Vaughn, of Tampa, Florida, and Rita Rios of Evanston, Illinois, had been in a physical altercation after which Vaughn hit Rios with her vehicle, police said.

Rios was taken to Stony Brook Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Vaughn was charged with second-degree assault. She will be arraigned at a later date, police said.
