A pedestrian was taken to a hospital Saturday night after he was punched in the face during a confrontation with a group of men who asked him for money, Suffolk police said.

The victim, 35, was walking on Straight Path at Patton Avenue at about 11:35 p.m. when a group of men came up to him and asked him for a dollar, police said.

One of the men then punched the victim in the face before fleeing, police said. No money was taken.

The victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment of a cut lip.

Police are investigating the incident.
