Suffolk County police late Sunday were searching for two men who had attempted an armed robbery earlier in the day of a Huntington Station check-cashing store.

The two men -- at least one of whom had a handgun -- entered the RIA check-cashing store on New York Avenue at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday and demanded cash from a teller, police said.

Bulletproof glass separated the men from the teller, who refused to comply with the suspects' demands, police said.

The men, both described as being in their 20s, fled south on New York Avenue, police said.

One suspect is described as being 5 feet tall and wearing a black knit cap and blue jeans with dark gloves and a skin-toned mask, police said.

The second is described as being about 5 feet, 2 inches tall and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and dark gloves, police said. The man had covered much of his face with a dark scarf during the robbery attempt and may have been carrying a handgun, police said.

Suffolk County police asked that anyone with information about the case to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
