A bather pulled from the waters off Fire Island National Seashore has been identified as a 67-year-old man from Elmhurst, Queens, officials said Monday.

The cause of death Saturday afternoon for Ovidio Villavicenio has not been determined, according to Lena Koschmann, chief ranger for the national park.

"A couple of sunbathers near the lighthouse saw a male facedown about 100 feet from shore about 1:15 p.m., Koschmann said. "A couple of swimmers pulled him in. Lifeguards from Robert Moses State Park responded almost immediately and tried to revive him."

He was later declared dead at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, she said.
