Authorities search for missing boater last seen on LI

Authorities were searching for a missing boater who did not arrive at a Lindenhurst marina as expected Saturday evening.

Coast Guard officials said Andrew Wise, 48, was reported missing Saturday. He left Gilgo Beach about 5:20 p.m., destined for the Anchorage Yacht Club, but did not arrive in the 25 minutes it usually takes to reach the Lindenhurst marina, officials said.

Wise left in an 8- to 13-foot white or gray dinghy, and Coast Guard officials had issued an urgent broadcast Saturday night about his disappearance. It was not immediately known where Wise lives.

Babylon firefighters, the Fire Island Coast Guard Station, Suffolk marine units and Suffolk helicopters were still searching for the boat shortly before midnight, the Coast Guard said.

There was no additional information immediately available Saturday night.
