The Town of Babylon will hold a public hearing next week on creating a new parking permit for lots at Copiague train station.
The permits would be free of charge and available to town residents only, town spokesman Kevin Bonner said.
Residents would have to apply to receive the permits, according to a town board resolution approved earlier this month.
Creating parking permits for the commuter lots is not explicitly tied to the town’s ongoing efforts to revitalize downtown Copiague, Bonner said. But easy access to parking is an important part of a well-functioning downtown, he said.
The hearing will take place at Babylon Town Hall, 200 E. Sunrise Hwy. in Lindenhurst, on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., the resolution shows.
