Babylon fire marshal faces sex-abuse charge

A Town of Babylon fire marshal has been arrested and arraigned on sexual abuse charges related to an incident involving a minor, Suffolk County Court records state.

Morgan W. Davis, 36, of West 15th Street in Deer Park, was arrested Monday and charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse and two counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child under the age of 17 years old. He appeared Tuesday in First District Court in Central Islip, but his case was continued until April 23.

The judge issued a temporary order of protection to prevent contact between Davis and the alleged victim and ordered Davis held on $2,000 bond or $1,000 cash bail. Records indicate Davis posted bail Wednesday.

It is not known if Davis is represented by counsel.

The alleged incidents, which, according to statute are related to sexual contact without consent based on the fact that the victim is a minor, occurred March 17 and March 24, records indicate.

The sexual abuse charges are a Class B misdemeanor and carry a maximum sentence of three months in jail.

Tim Ruggeri, Babylon Town spokesman, said Davis has been training this week in Yaphank but that upon his return next week, he will be put on desk duty with pay. Davis has been employed full-time by the town since November 2007, records indicate.
