A pedestrian died after being struck by a Babylon Fire Department vehicle responding to an emergency Wednesday night, Suffolk County police said.

The first responder vehicle, a 2004 Dodge Durango, hit Meade Pilaccio, 64, of West Babylon, as he was crossing Park Avenue, west of Deer Park Avenue, about 10 p.m., police said.

He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The fire vehicle, driven by Alexander Weber, had its emergency lights and sirens on at the time, police said. Weber was not injured.

First Squad detectives are investigating, police said. They urge anyone with information about the crash to call 631-854-8152.
