A gas leak on Long Island has prompted police to evacuate several homes.

Suffolk County police say the gas leak was reported Friday night in Babylon.

Police spokesman Rob Busweiler says the National Grid company has responded to the scene to fix the leak but will have to dig up a road before it can identify the cause.

Busweiler said there were no injuries.

He said fewer than 10 homes were evacuated, but didn't have a more exact number.
