A man was killed in a fire that broke out in his West Babylon home Sunday morning.

James Vella, 39, died during the blaze, which Suffolk County Police said was not related to any crime. Another man, a woman and her 8-year-old son were also at the 15th Street home during the fire, but escaped. The man was taken to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation. A First Precinct police officer was also taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The woman and her son were not injured, police said.

Police had received a call of a house fire at 5:50 a.m., a police spokeswoman said.
